The Watcher of Westfield

The Watcher of Westfield

Based on a terrifying true story from New Jersey, USA.

In 2014, Derek and Maria Broaddus thought they had found their dream home: a beautiful six-bedroom house on 657 Boulevard in Westfield, New Jersey. They had just closed the deal for over $1.3 million. But their excitement quickly turned into fear.

.

...

Just days after moving in, Derek checked the mailbox and found a strange letter addressed to “The New Owner.” The typed letter began pleasantly enough, welcoming them to the neighborhood. But then it took a dark turn.

"657 Boulevard has been the subject of my family for decades now," it read. "I have been put in charge of watching and waiting for its second coming. My grandfather watched the house in the 1920s, and my father in the 1960s. It is now my time."

 The letter asked creepy questions:

  • “Have they found out what’s in the walls yet?”

  • “Do you need to fill the house with the young blood I requested?”

It even mentioned the Broaddus children by nickname and birth order—information that had not been publicly shared. The letter was signed only:
— The Watcher

Over the next weeks, more letters came. Some were angry. Some were threatening. One said:

“I am pleased to know your names now and the name of the young blood you have brought to me.”

.

The Broaddus family never moved in. They were too terrified. Police investigated but never found the identity of "The Watcher." Was it a neighbor? A prank? Something worse?

Despite DNA testing and surveillance, no suspect was ever confirmed. The Watcher still remains a mystery.

To this day, the story of the Watcher House chills everyone who hears it. The home has since been sold, but the legend continues—and 657 Boulevard is now one of the most famous haunted houses in modern America.
